Well-designed technology-based training engages the learner through interactivity. It is a truism that Web-based Training (WBT) must be interactive. But for many developers, interactivity never goes beyond click-along navigation. The most effective interactivity is not between the learner and the computer, but between the learner and the instructional designer who designed the learning experience. The principles of instructional design apply on the Web as well as they apply in the classroom. Adult learners need motivation and a rationale for learning, they need clearly stated and achievable objectives related to job performance, they need evaluation and feedback, and most of all they need to be engaged by well-designed, interactive learning activities.
